Session Description
Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) are sudden discharges of huge water from glacial lakes, typically triggered by dam failure due to ice melt, landslides, or seismic activity. These events pose significant hazards to downstream communities and infrastructure. This session focuses on the geomorphic and sedimentological impacts of GLOFs, with particular emphasis on gravel deposition patterns. Discussions will explore sediment transport processes, depositional environments, and the identification of past GLOF events through gravel-rich deposits. Contributions on hazard assessment, early warning systems, and climate change influences are also encouraged.
