Naimisharanya, a revered Hindu pilgrimage site, is situated in the Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh, India, approximately 94 km from Lucknow, along the banks of the Gomti River. This sacred forest, also known as Naimisha (Sanskrit: नैमिष), holds deep significance in Hindu mythology and is frequently mentioned in ancient scriptures, including the Mahabharata, the Ramayana, and various Puranic texts. The site is home to several important temples, notably the Shri Naimishnath VishnuTemple, which uniquely blends South Indian architectural elements on the exterior with North Indian influences in its interior design. According to Hindu mythology, Naimisharanya is the location where the divine wheel (Chakra) of Lord Brahma struck the earth, creating a sacred water body. Strategically located at the confluence of roads from Sitapur and Khairabad, Naimisharanya lies 32 km from Sitapur, 42 km from Sandila railway station, and is positioned on the left bank of the Gomti River. Also referred to as Nimsar or Nimkhar, it continues to be a major pilgrimage destination, attracting devotees and spiritual seekers from across India.
