Session Description

Studies from both terrestrial and marine/lacustrine geological records are invaluable to unravel past earthquakes and active faults. In particular, multidisciplinary paleoseismological approaches can help to bridge scales, get a more complete picture of fault activity, and gain new insights into past ground-rupturing earthquakes. In this session, we seek studies presenting advances in tectonic geomorphology, geodesy, seismic stratigraphy, and sedimentology to explore fault activity, earthquake-related surface deformation, and fault displacement. Investigations bridging the land–subaqueous boundary are specifically encouraged, as well as those addressing particular challenges such as stratigraphic correlation across environments, age modelling, event horizon identification, and preservation biases. We also promote methodological innovations that enhance the accuracy and reproducibility of paleoseismic reconstructions in tectonically active regions.
