Session Description
This session explores how geoarchaeology in the Himalayas contributes to preserving and understanding cultural heritage shaped by Quaternary environmental change. Focusing on archaeological material culture, sacred landscapes, and ancient mobility routes in the Himalayan borderlands, it highlights how communities have historically adapted to dynamic environments. Integrating scientific methods with traditional knowledge, the session emphasizes inclusive, community-based approaches to heritage stewardship. It invites case studies that demonstrate how Quaternary science can serve society by informing culturally sensitive and sustainable conservation practices in the face of climate change, glacial retreat, and development pressures.
