Session Description

This session investigates megalithic burials as cultural expressions that provide insights into ancient human settlements, environmental adaptations, and burial customs. It promotes interdisciplinary approaches by combining archaeology, anthropology, geoarchaeology, and paleoenvironmental sciences to understand how early communities responded to different ecological contexts through building megalithic monuments. By examining regional trends, symbolic materials, burial structures, and settlement patterns, the session seeks to reconstruct the socio-cultural and environmental factors that influenced early societies. Contributors are encouraged to submit both empirical and theoretical work exploring the links between death, memory, landscape usage, and long-term human-environment relationships.
