Session Description

The tropics play a key role in global heat and moisture distribution and are home to ecosystems that sustain billions of lives. Reconstructing past tropical climates is thus highly relevant as it provides information necessary to distinguish natural climate variability from anthropogenic changes. This session seeks to improve our understanding of Quaternary tropical hydroclimate from decadal to orbital timescales, with emphasis on the comparison and integration of proxy archives and modelling datasets.

As a follow-up to the INQUA-funded workshop "Tropical hydroclimate variability in the Quaternary: Insights from proxies and models, and the way forward", this session will bring together proxy and modelling researchers, addressing their complementary nature and spatiotemporal differences of their approaches. We welcome abstracts on new terrestrial and marine records, novel modelling experiments, transient simulations, and data assimilation focusing on hydroclimate processes in tropical regions.
