Session Description

Significant progress in the methodology of various dating techniques over the past few decades has enabled the establishment of regional stratigraphy and global correlation with increased precision, settling many debates and controversies over the identification of climatic events and stratigraphic boundaries. This session provides a platform for sharing experiences in advancing geochronological tools and applying them to solve important stratigraphic and paleoenvironmental problems. The development of new instrumentation will facilitate quicker and more accurate dating, providing opportunities for integrating stratigraphy based on different (e.g. astro, bio, chemo or magneto) approaches, and addressing some long-standing regional or global stratigraphic issues. Contributions identifying grand challenges in Quaternary chronostratigraphy and remaining/emerging key stratigraphic problems in climatically sensitive regions with high-resolution multiproxy records are particularly welcome.
