State Museum, Lucknow was established in 1863, the State Museum is located within the Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Gardens, also known as Banarasi Bagh, in Lucknow. Initially founded from the collection of Colonel Saunders Alexius Abbott, it was designated as the 'Provincial Museum' before being renamed the 'State Museum' in 1950. Archaeological Artifacts includes items from the prehistoric period, Bronze Age, and notable plaster casts from the Indus Valley Civilization. A vast array of coins from different eras, including those from the Panchal, Ayodhya, Indo-Greek kingdoms, and the Gupta period. Miniature paintings from Mughal and Pahari schools, Jain Kalpasutra manuscripts from the 15th–16th centuries, and significant texts like the 1593 Padmavat by Jayasi. Items such as jade artifacts, ivory carvings, embroidered garments, and weapons ranging from the 16th to the 19th centuries are also present. Musa Bagh, translating to 'Garden of Moses,' is a historical site located on the outskirts of Lucknow. Constructed during the late 18th century under Nawab Saadat Ali Khan, it exemplifies the fusion of Mughal and European architectural styles. The site holds significant historical importance, especially during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, where it served as a strategic location for resistance against British forces.
