Session Description

Hydrological variability and extreme floods and drought occurrences can be reconstructed from the sedimentary archive of rivers and lakes, and archaeological and historical evidence. Their study enhances our knowledge of hydrological regime changes in response to past and recent climate change, and informs on interactions of (pre-)modern humans with such environments and events. This allows for advanced risk assessments, including the attribution of recent major events.

This session is hosted by the GLOCOPH working group, and is based on the PalaeoHydrology: Ancient Disasters, Modern Application INQUA-supported project. Contributions with innovative multi-disciplinary approaches, spanning across hydrology, geomorphology, sedimentology, and geoarchaeology are warmly suggested. We welcome contributions from early career researchers and researchers from emerging economies, as these are the places where monitored data is limited and the population most vulnerable to hydroclimatic change.
