Session Description

Magnetic minerals are ubiquitous in the natural environment. As signals of past geological, physical or chemical changes are recorded in these magnetic minerals, environmental magnetic techniques provide a fast, inexpensive and non-destructive method to reconstruct these changes. The advances in new methods such as the First Order Reversal Curves (FORCs), micromagnetic modelling and magnetic component unmixing during the past decade have allowed us to gain critical information regarding the sedimentary magnetic properties, aiding in reconstruction of past environments and climate. The proposed session invites submissions on the application of environmental magnetic techniques in investigating sedimentary processes, paleoclimate, biomagnetism, paleointensity, archaeomagnetism and on pollution studies during the Quaternary period. We particularly welcome multidisciplinary contributions and studies demonstrating novel approaches in magnetic data interpretation and modelling.
